“Make it Make Sense!” Series

This year, PDCE is introducing a series to help us delve into topics that makes us tilt our collective heads and request “Make it Make Sense!” The topics covered will be informative and insightful but not daunting and overwhelming, such as Artificial Intelligence 101, The Game of Chess, Retired Life – The Next Chapter and The Basics of the Stock Market. With 2024 being a significant election year, we will focus on civic literacy and engagement to take voter registration to the next level...voter education. Beginning in June, bi-monthly topics will include: The Electoral College – what it is and how does it work; basic government structure & functions of local government entities; and how does the political party process work. The cost for these hybrid mini-lectures will be $25.

Conversational Spanish

Conversational Spanish: Intro, Basic, and Advanced

Learning to speak Spanish in your work or daily life will make you more confident in your interactions and can be a valuable asset to your employer and on your resume. Regardless of how much Spanish you already know, PDCE Conversational Spanish courses are designed for the adult learner who wants to put their new language skills to work right away.

The Conversational Spanish Series is divided into three modules: Intro, Basic, and Advanced (2-hour, in-person sessions) so you can enroll in one module or all three! All courses are presented by experienced IU faculty, in two-hour, Saturday sessions.

This in-person course - presented in two parts, on two separate days - will cover pronunciation and basic conversation while studying greetings, numbers, days of the week, time, simple verb conjugations, articles, pronouns, nouns and three different types of adjectives, contractions in Spanish, forming questions in Spanish, verb ir a, verb endings (ar, er, ir), expressions with verb tener.

This summer, help your child become a confident, enthusiastic reader. Summer Reading Skills Programs are offered by the IU Indianapolis Office of Community Engagement, and designed and taught by instructors from the Institute of Reading Development.

These single-grade programs teach key reading skills, from phonics and sight words for younger children to comprehension, reading speed, and textbook strategies for older kids, and everything in between.
