As a Marion County anchor institution, it’s our responsibility to do our part to help our community thrive.
To that end, IU Indianapolis is working to align resources in support of Marion County’s Live, Buy, and Hire strategies. Our goals are to increase local hires, buy local, and encourage employees to live in and support surrounding neighborhoods and businesses.
IU Indianapolis’ anchor housing program offered down payment and home repair loan assistance to full-time employees interested in buying a home within portions of the Near West/River West, Riverside, and Ransom neighborhoods.
Eligible employees were able to get a five-year forgivable loan, and for each year they live in the home, 20 percent of the loan balance will be eliminated and the entire loan will be forgiven after five years.

To help make it easier for small businesses and other vendors to connect with the university, the office takes part in events like the Black Business Summit and in a new Indy Chamber initiative that encourages business owners to partner with IU Indianapolis.
