This tool maps community engagement activities of IUPUI faculty and students.
Each point on the map is the location where an activity occurred or where an activity’s community
partners are located. Click the location to learn about the activity. There can be more than one
activity at each point, and an activity can show up at multiple locations (if it has multiple
community partners).
Once you click an activity, click the names of faculty members, schools and centers, and
community organizations to see other activities that share a connection. For example, you could
see connections to all the activities related to a particular faculty member.
The toolbar lets you change what is on the map. Color activities by information like start date
or number of students involved, or filter activities by information like faculty and community
organizations involved. You can also add SAVI data, including
social and demographic data (for example, poverty rate and graduation rate) and community
resources (for example, schools or food pantries).
Below the map, a report shows you data about the activities on the map. (Only the activities that
match your filters are counted in these charts).
To share the map you’ve created, click “Share Map”. Decide if you’d like to share the map and
charts, just the map, or just the charts. Then decided if you’d like the IU header and footer to
show up. (For sharing the whole page, it’s best to include the header and footer, but for
embedding in another page, it’s best to uncheck this option.) Click copy URL. You can paste this
into a browser to see your map, paste it into a social media post to share it, or use it to
embed your map in another page.
About the data
This map shows activities that have been entered in the Collaboratory, a platform that captures
IUPUI’s community engagement efforts. Not all community engaged work at IUPUI is entered into
the Collaboratory, and therefore, not all of it shows up on the map. We update the map
periodically, so it is not a live copy of the data in the Collaboratory.
Social data, demographic data, and community resources come from SAVI, a project of The Polis
Center at IUPUI.
